Why do I get an OTP from Geojit without requesting one?

Sometimes, you might wonder why you are getting an OTP from Geojit without you requesting one. You may also suspect your trading account is prone to hacking. But, before jumping to conclusions, let's break it down.

 

You may receive an OTP, without requesting for one due to entering an incorrect username. For example, if your trade code is EIW1992 and some other person's trade code is EIW1993, this person may enter your trade code by mistake and try to log in using his password. As the trade codes are similar, he might not have noticed the wrong trade code he entered. Since the trade code and password don't match, the login will fail, and if it fails consecutively for the third time, then an OTP will be sent from Geojit to the mobile number and email ID registered with that trade code.

 

But you don't have to panic in such situations. Whenever our system detects a suspicious login attempt, an additional layer of security is automatically triggered—resulting in triple authentication: OTP + Password + 2FA.  One can only log in to Geojit's online platforms using the correct trade code and respective password. So malpracticers cannot easily sneak into your account, unless you share your password and OTP with random people.
