What are NRI banned scrips?

NRIs can only trade in RBI (Reserve Bank of India) permitted shares.

The RBI has set limits for investments made by FIIs, NRIs and PIOs via the PIS (Portfolio Investment Scheme). Based on this, investments of each investor category are monitored by the RBI on a daily basis.
  • When the aggregate purchases in a company by NRIs reach the cut-off limit (2% below the actual limit), further purchases require RBI approval.
  • When the actual limit is reached, the concerned share is put under the banned status. These shares will be blocked in NRI trading accounts till the ban is lifted.

The list of NRI-banned shares is given under the Message Board on the login page of our trading terminals.
